Would a diode-less design be possible?

Hey, thank you for the design! It is very neat. Since diodes are hard to solder and there are a lot of them, would a diode-less design be possible?

Not really, you would have to short the two pads where the diodes go. You might be able to do that with solder, but I usually struggle bridging even smaller distances.
A new version would be in order, with THT diode, diode-less, etc support, but as I didn't get into 34 keys, it's hard to find the motivation.
