Possibility of using SOD-123 diodes for easier hand soldering?

Hi there, thanks for sharing this build! Now JLCPCB is gonna like it!

I am planning to build this keyboard, but I noticed that the current design uses SOD-323 diodes, which in indeed quite challenging to solder by hand. I am considering modifying the PCB to use SOD-123 footprints instead, as they are much easier for manual assembly.

Have you ever tried using SOD-123 on this board (I know that they go under the key switches)? I am wondering if there are any specific space constraints or layout reasons that necessitate the smaller SOD-323 package.

Hello,

The reason for the SOD-323 package was that it fits comfortably under the switches where the leds would go. Why would anyone put them under the switches where it's not even repairable, I have no idea.
I'd use a hybrid footprint outside of the switches footprint now. This board was just a quick manifestation of the 100x100 idea. A lot of things are not very thought out, there is room for improvements.
