It's unclear to me how to get the sample OpenType fonts.

This topic provides an overview of the sample OpenType fonts that are distributed with the Windows SDK

Where in the Windows SDK?

The Windows SDK provides a set of sample OpenType fonts [having the names in the following table]

I installed the latest Windows SDK. A recursive search for "*.ttf" within "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits" returns nothing.

I looked more closely at the .md source for this documentation page and I can see it has a "ms.date" of 03/30/2017. I believe that would make it overlap with Windows 10 version 1607 (build number 14393). And so I downloaded and installed the "Windows 10 SDK (10.0.14393.795)" from the legacy SDK downloads page.

But still a search for "*.ttf" in the SDK install directory returns nothing.

I downloaded the oldest Windows SDK, "Windows SDK for Windows 7 and .NET Framework 4", from that same page. But the installer encountered an error partway through and refused to install.

I'm sorry that I'm not very familiar with Windows SDK usage. Perhaps I'm searching in the wrong places?

Arrrrgggg I'll have to investigate 😁 This was written long before I was on the team and I have no idea of the original author. Regardless, I'll see what I can dig up.

The article says the fonts are licensed by Ascender Corporation, looks like they got acquired back in 2010: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ascender_Corporation

I would guess that the license doesn't exist and this article should probably be deleted and redirected to the wpf/advanced/opentype-font-features article.
