Detecting image load and fail

Is there a way to detect when an image (especially a remote image) has successfully loaded, or failed?

Looking through the code I can see this:

public interface IImageSourcePartEvents
{
    void LoadingStarted();  
    void LoadingCompleted(bool successful);
    void LoadingFailed(Exception exception);
}

which looks like the right kind of thing, but nothing implements it, except for some tests.
