VS for windows 17.6.6 - Maui .net 7 not visible?

I am trying to get VS 2022 windows to work with Maui for .net7 so i can start converting a major xamarin project which .must run under iOS.
VS for windows is 17.6.6 and VS for Mac is 17.6 but when i try and create a maui app, it only shows .net 6? Is that right?

• I can see .net 7 if i create a .net core project. I can see framework 7.0.307 installed on both windows and mac.
• I have previously installed 17.7 on windows which wanted to use framework 7.0.400 but when i installed on the mac, it said the framework was only compatible with VS for Mac 17.7 which is not available. I tried to ignore it, but VS for windows tried to install a further sdk into the mac which failed to download (Could not install dotnet SDK '7.0.400-rtm.23369.16'. )

What versions of VS and dotnet framework should i use?
