Microsoft is expecting the community to support Maui on Linux, if this is to be the case you can't have the community wait for preview 1 to start working on it. |

True, but if the libraries for windows are not even working and linked together properly how do you expect to build on top of that for Linux. |

I hope you mean: but if the 'common' libraries are not even working and linked together, I'm sure you didn't mean to imply some kind of hierarchy in the platform support. I don't see why the linux support should wait for the windows to work. |

the team has to start somewhere, and building on Windows and Mac are more common so they'll do those first.

Sure the 'Microsoft' team are going to focus on Windows and Mac, however Microsoft have officially committed to having Linux supported by the community. Microsoft are not the only team in play here. So as a member of the community I not going to accept "wait for window and mac" as an answer. You can't say you want the community to support linux and then exclude the community until after you finish windows and mac. So lets try and be constructive here, and instead of saying wait, say what needs to be done, what can the linux community do to help. |

So given the question, what needs to be done to get it building on linux. Do we expect the linux build to use .net 5, or dotnet core 3 or mono? I think currently the GTK# 2 library that is being used doesn't support dotnet core. Which means either sticking with mono or changing the GTK#2 lib to .net core/5 or moving to the GTK# 3 library which does work on .net core/5 and already has nuget packages. What should be done about projects that will not build on linux for example the iOS projects. Should they be excluded when on linux, does this require a separate sln for linux that excludes those projects. |

You need .net 6.0 as MAUI will work on that, not .net 5. Currently not even the MVU ahritecture is implemented. MAUI won't be available until the preview of .NET 6 is released (later this year). Current development is happening in xamarin/xamarin.forms only. Please check the roadmap for more info of the current state of MAUI https://github.com/dotnet/maui/wiki/Roadmap |

That roadmap doesn't include the word Linux, it appears to be limited to only what Microsoft is going to do, but Maui isn't a Microsoft only project, Linux is listed as officially supported by the community so it should be on the roadmap. |

I'm keen to try out .NET Maui, how do I go about building it?
I'm on linux so don't have access to Visual Studio and MonoDevelop no longer supports linux. But I do have a terminal and vscode.
How do I go about building .NET Maui?
