Add documentation blocks

Documentation blocks needs to be added to all methods in the library. Apple's Markup Formatting Reference should be used when writing the blocks.

Commit 46a5d90 begins the process of adding documentation blocks to the public functions. There are still a few to complete, so we'll keep this issue open until all of the public functions have documentation blocks.
