[Feature Request] Shapefiles as Layers

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I really enjoy SupercellWX, it's better than any of the web based radars for sure, but I would like it if I could better display a certain area with easier to see boundaries and labels.

Describe the solution you'd like
I would like to be able to import a shapefile (generated in QGIS for example) as a map layer, so I can have a visible border around, say my hometown, above the actual radar data.

I have thought I could make my own placefiles for this, however the documentation for creating placefiles is either non-existent or just really hard to find.

For the borders, labels and similar map features... Log into your selected map provider and you should be able to customize one of the various map styles to your liking. It isn't hard so much as complex since there are lots of item types that you can select from within the different map features. Then save it as a name you can remember and get the map URL and paste that link into the settings for a custom map. Then on the main settings area for map settings... select custom from the list of available map style/themes.

Oh... if you haven't already done so, perhaps look through the existing themes already provided as well before you go to customizing.

I would like to add native shapefile support, but it may be a while before I can get to this one.

I know of, but am not familiar with how to, taking of vector based shapefile of points and lines and using a script to convert it into the placefile coordinates seen in things like the warning boxes etc. It just wasn't what I was trying to do or learn.

All I have done with shapefiles were take OSM road maps, join them together and then cut out a radius that covered a radar sites area of coverage to create a road map for that area. I never went further and converted the results to a placefile since my GrLevel3 did work with shapefiles so a conversion wasn't needed. The shapefiles themselves are pretty large and I suspect converting them into coordinates to have lines drawn would have slowed down GrLevel3 even more than the shapefiles themselves did while loading.
