No documentation for aliasedTable

I noticed that there is the function aliasedTable which appears to be able to be used instead of a DB engine specific alias. I wondered if this was intentional but there appear to be no docs for this function at present. It would be good if documentation could be added for this function and reasons given to use or avoid when compared to alias if they are indeed interchangeable. Thanks for the great work!
