Reporter column widths no longer being auto re-sized

Had a thought, but just tested and it is the same in both x11 and Wayland.

The Msg column width is the only one that's supposed to be saved (while all others auto-size). Is the Msg column the one having issues?

I've noticed this too, it seems the problem is that none of the supposedly auto-sized columns actually auto-size.

i set Msg to be as wide as possible without causing a horizontal scrollbar. i have to set the overall window size and widen the Msg column every time. FreeDV 2.2.1

@csylvain, are you on a multiple monitor setup? There have been problems around that in the past on Windows.

Yes, that seems to have fixed the problem, I think. Yes, exited the program, restarted, opened Reporter window and columns are autosized.

i do have a multi-monitor setup. i have not observed anything strange happen. FreeDV 2.2.1 opens on the 1st monitor and i drag it to the second on each start. if i have just one monitor, the same FreeDV Reporter window behavior is seen

OK, so I thought it wasn't an issue on Windows in my own testing but just in case, I updated the PR to disable the previous change on Windows too. Let me know how the build at https://github.com/drowe67/freedv-gui/actions/runs/22045266033?pr=1231 (once complete) works for you.

for me, it's behaving more like it remembers the size of the Msg column even though the overall size of the Reporter window shrinks back to the initial HxW. a horizontal scrollbar is now present at opening, but the Msg column has returned to a smaller size. i gather the Msg column has some kind of internal "this size but no wider" and forgets any widening past that maximum

To make sure I'm understanding this correctly, the first screenshot shows what you did prior to a restart, right? And the second shows what it does when you restart FreeDV?

just after a restart, and then adjusted the way i like it. repeatable.
the earlier pair of screenshots are the way i like it, and the way it is after restarting.
