Project roadmap / long-term maintenance plans?

Hi 👋

First off, thanks for building and sharing this awesome addon — we’ve been evaluating it for use in production Statamic projects.
Seeing the promising features and capabilities of the alpha version we are eager to use it!

Before we commit to it as a dependency, we’d love to understand the long-term direction and maintenance plans:

• Do you expect this to remain a side project maintained primarily by you?

• Is there any intention (or ongoing discussion) for Statamic core (or the Statamic team) to take over maintenance in the future?

• If not, do you have plans for sustainability (e.g. additional maintainers, org ownership, sponsorship, release cadence, support policy)?

We completely understand plans can change — we’re mainly trying to gauge the long-term goals in order for us to use this repo.
Knowing the WooCommerce ecosystem this can easily become a great addon!

Yes, at least for the time being. Simple Commerce (the precursor to Cargo) has been a side project for the last 4/5 years.

Is there any intention (or ongoing discussion) for Statamic core (or the Statamic team) to take over maintenance in the future?

Nope. There's only 5 of us on the team, and there's only so much we have capacity for. If we were to take on Cargo, it would mean we have less time and attention to spend on Statamic itself.

If not, do you have plans for sustainability (e.g. additional maintainers, org ownership, sponsorship, release cadence, support policy)?

Once Cargo has been properly released (which should be next month, alongside Statamic 6), I'm hoping to use some of the revenue to hire someone to help with maintenance.

Cargo will also have annual renewals for licenses, similar to Statamic, which will help to make things more sustainable business-wise than Simple Commerce is now.

In terms of support and releasing bug fixes, my "plan" is to answer questions & fix things as quickly as reasonably possible. Bringing on someone else should help to lighten the load on me personally.
