An e107 v.2.4.0 installation requires the GitHub files on the server, or do I need to delete them?
Suggestion, please explain?

this is a screenshot from the zip file you download straight from git main page (here at github code page (green code button)).
The content displayed referring to A and B.
For normal purpose you do NOT have to upload the .github folder ( = A ).
For developer and testing functions you MAY upload the test folder ( = B ). You can leave out this one, it will work nevertheless.
Its how deep you want to go inside the system to 'run test when developing etc..).
The rest of files and folders > yes they must be uploaded.
Just remember it is a developer version, and is prone to updates, mistakes can be present. Should run nicely (afaik) up to php 8.3.x.
For php 8.4 and higher: no info
