As tycho-surefire-plugin seems to pick the wrong environment the mac os specific bundles like org.eclipse.jdt.launching.macosx (although contained in the resolved target plugins) are not being available in the started OSGi runtime.

If you configure environment, nothing is "detected" at all so it all depends on your configuration and your expectations....

Maybe, can you elaborate why the windows environment is emitted then for m2e on a Mac machine? Just because it is listed first in the environments?

Without debugging the code I can't tell why that particular line is printed, but in general, all configured environments are resolved as the "Dependency Set" but this will not contain fragments per se (I assume it is a fragment?) so if org.eclipse.jdt.launching.macosx is not required in a special way it will be omitted from this set, so it does not really matter if it is in the target platform of the build but actually picket by the project "Dependency Set" (that is actually P2), so the first you can try is add an additional requirement to the target or tycho-surefire configuration.

Well, any plugin configuration should follow the semantics. Otherwise it should be explicitly stated that the inheritance rules deviate in the documentation at

So please open a bug at maven then, Tycho do not parse the pom and can't do anything here, it simply operates on the datastructures provided by maven.

beside that I can't see how / where Tycho should behave "wrong", e.g. what are you expecting and what are you seeing?

You don't rely on parameter injection but just evaluate Plugin.getConfiguration() in https://github.com/eclipse-tycho/tycho/blob/bd0da0a00478313f01f6eadfd6e78956d8df7796/tycho-core/src/main/java/org/eclipse/tycho/core/resolver/DefaultTargetPlatformConfigurationReader.java#L90. TBH I am not sure why this one doesn't return the effective configuration when a profile is active....

Not possible IIUC

So can you debug/check that os.name and os.arch return the expected values? I'm currently refactoring these parts a bit to make it all more uniform (currently there are two different methods that compute the "default"), just to make sure there is no deviation here? Because there are already some special cases we should just verify this, even though I don't expect any problem here as swt seems to work fine with Tycho on aarm64 already, but this has often also very special configuration.
