Yes I tried those extension point for a while. So far I can add items into the subpage of the right column item. But failed to find a way to add into the root page.

@merks : I believe some of the items on the left side are contributed by Oomph or by epp packages, so there should be a way to define where in this page the content appears. Any hints?

Oomph contributes some menubar menu items, e.g., on the Help menu but doesn't contribute anything to the welcome page.
