Add the option to clone a tab on the right click of the head of the tab and other options

Can you also add the option to right click the head of a tab mainly the option to clone the current tab (just like the option clone under window --> editor -- > clone) .

You can basically put all the options in the menu window ---> editor in the right click of the head of the tab.

I know both Jetbrains ide and Vscode ides have the option to split vertical and horizontal on right of a head tab. Eclipse should have the same feature.

The most important option to add to the right click of the head of tab is to clone the tab which is Eclipse unique killer feature which does not get enough respect and for some reason
hidden hidden in the window --> editor menu.

Also let me make it clear I know there is keyboard shortcut for it but I don't like keyboard shortcuts I want an option in the context menu when right click of the mouse on the header of the tab,

Edit : I would also also add the same options (of clone , split ... ) as icons on the main toolbar but I don't know if I have to add another issue for that

We already have had this discussion and no you can not

basically put all the options in the menu window ---> editor in the right click of the head of the tab

because the Tabs are a so called PartStack and used everywhere else in Eclipse (not only for editors). Then "Editor" is an E3 term and the Eclipse E4 model does not has such thing as an Editor. Even worse, some of the functions are quite broken for some editor types (e.g Multiform Editors).

And other users don't like random options to appear everywhere ;-)

What on the other hand can be done is to add items to the popup menu when you right click the "editor" and this is how most of such actions are already done for Eclipse already, so instead of reinvent the wheel one might go into that direction.

I see it differently.

Of course from user perspective tab options should be available on a tab, like everywhere else in IDE's and browsers and other "tabbed" applications. "Clone", "split" etc tab menus are expected by users on the tab, it is most intuitive and natural choice. Users don't care about e4/e3 etc technical details, it is our part as tool providers to make sure we implement it "right".

For sure it is technically possible, the question is who will invest time to do it in the "right" way, so "pure" e4 applications would not be affected and "legacy" e3 applications (==Eclipse IDE) can have that feature in.

Excuse my ignorance but I do not know what is e4 and e3 applications. I am just talking about adding a few options to a context menu of the right click of a tab . Options that already exist in the window --> editor menu so it just putting new links of existing functionally to an existing context menu when you right click a tab. Why should that be such a problem ? is it that hard to add more options to an existing context menu that invoke existing functionality ?

Edit : I do not know how to write a Eclipse plugin or to add a new functionality (I don't know how complex such a task is) to the ide but from what I gathered from an Ai it seems that the actual logic that performs an action like clone a tab (the operation or handler) is entirely separate from the visual menu item (menu option component) that invokes it like the option to clone in the window --> editor --> clone option so all I asking is to call that existing functionally from a different place in the ide, from a new menu option in the existing context menu of a tab. Unless you are telling me that the basic operation of adding a new option to an existing menu is very complex and may break the ide.

Edit 2 : I did not see the first response to my request by laeubi when I wrote this replay I only answered to what iloveeclipse wrote . So what laeubi is saying is that you can not simply add a new option to only to the context menu of the header of the tab without having that option appear randomly on other context menus. You can only add it to the pop up menu of the right click of the entire editor well that is ok it is not exactly what I want but it will be a great improvement , a step in the right direction which is much better then going to window menu all the time.
Is it also difficult to add icons to the main toolbar with same functionality like clone , split ... ?
