We at useblocks develop tools that make working with Sphinx and Sphinx-Needs easier.
I think it would be of value to get the word out about our tools ubCode (https://ubcode.useblocks.com/) and its companion CLI app ubc (https://ubcode.useblocks.com/ubc/introduction.html).

It can do real time previews of RST, collect need items, jump between references/definitions, also collect Sphinx references since the latest version. The tools can also be used in the CI.
