I love Thorium Reader. It's hands down the best epub reader on Windows. But every time I hit "Read Aloud," I'd cringe. Microsoft David starts reading my favorite novel like a GPS navigator. Flat, robotic, zero emotion. It completely ruins the experience of listening to a good book.
The frustrating part? AI voices that sound almost human already exist. Open source models like Kokoro can read text with natural pauses, rhythm, and emotion the kind of voice you'd actually enjoy listening to for hours. But Thorium (and every other Windows app) can only use the voices that Windows provides through its built in voice system.
So I built VoiceLink to fix exactly this.
What it does
VoiceLink makes AI voices appear as regular Windows voices. Once installed, you open Thorium, go to the voice dropdown, and you'll see 11 new voices right alongside Microsoft David and Zira. Select one and the difference is instant — natural, expressive speech that actually makes listening to books enjoyable.
No command line. No configuration. Thorium doesn't even know anything changed it just sees more voices in the list.
How it works (the short version)
Everything runs locally on your machine. No cloud. No internet after the initial setup. Your text never leaves your computer.

The voices
11 voices total, both American and British English:
Audio samples are available in the repo if you want to hear them before installing.
Installation
No Python installation needed. No terminal commands. Just install and go.
