would it be possible to implement simple serial commands so that the radio can be controlled through the serial port?

emulating the keypad might be the easiest method, for example; sending the character 1 through the serial port would be the same as physically pressing the 1 key on the radio's keypad.
I've never read through the whole source code so I don't even know where to start, but it should be pretty simple to add.
