Issue Reasons:

• [8.17] 2 failures in test testSearcherId (0.5% fail rate in 374 executions)
• [8.17] 2 failures in pipeline elasticsearch-periodic-platform-support (15.4% fail rate in 13 executions)

This looks very similar to #118374 and #120442 which seem to have been fixed with #122919 but fix wasn’t backported to 8.17.
I will check test failure history to confirm this isn't failing elsewhere

This has only been failing on 8.17 in the last three months so I propose to backport the fix from #122919 as long as 8.17 is still active.
