Can't log in... or out... of Element on Android

Steps to reproduce

Hello. I was using Element on my Android phone with no problem. However I changed to a custom OS (CalyxOS) and when I installed Element and tried to sign in I was unable to. I see a screen with "Welcome back!" and "Where your conversations live - matrix.org" Noext to that is an Edit button, and below is "Forgot Password". But nowhere is there an input line for my username or password. Only a Continue button. When I press it, I see a "Allow access to your account?" screen, and another Continue button. BUT, below the Continue button I see "Not shardwell (my user name)? Sign out". In other words it is as if I am already signed in. But if I press the Continue button, nothing happens. If I press it again after waiting a while, I get an "Unexpected error - compat_sso_login_expired - This login session expired."

I have tried signing out of all sessions via the Desktop Element, and uninstalling Element on the Android phone - including all data. But if I re-install Element and start over again, the same things I described above happen again. I have also tried Element X and the same thing happens. It's as if I were already signed in, but I can't get to any of my conversations or rooms. And if I sign out where it says "Not shardwell? Sign out" I go back to the previous screen, and if I press Continue I get the same error again. I've been through this process several times now. Meanwhile I can still connect with no problem via the Desktop Element.

What did you expect? To see my conversations and rooms on Element for Android

What happened instead? I keep seeing what looks like a sign-in screen, but there's no place for me to enter my username and password. It's as if I'm already logged in. But I can't get to the conversations and rooms. And I can't log out either.

I'm facing a similar issue on my Razer Phone 2, stock ROM (so Android 9), on the same version (1.6.34, since the F-Droid variant isn't being updated).
I was unable to post, so I tried an init sync, which failed, so I logged out, however I am not unable to log in, since it fails to even load anything when pressing on Sign In, much less input sign-in information.

Reinstalling Element did not help.

I installed ScildiChat and it's working fine with no problems. It found all my contacts and chats right away. YMMV. Video calls are maybe not quite as good as with Element. Anyway I stopped diddling around with Element.

Same, though I did have issues, though those were mostly due to my networking conditions.

I believe that Schildichat is working due to to the F-Droid build simply being up to date, and we could have probably gotten Element working if we installed it from here or from the Play Store (such as via Aurora Store), however that is not an acceptable workaround in this case, where the F-Droid build is not getting updated due to ignored build issues.
