Notification Method Background Synchronization on the GooglePlay Store APK

Hi, I use the Element APK installed from F-Droid to connect to a Synapse Matrix Server that has no Google Firebase Push / Apple Push Notification service Implementation so I choose
Background Synchronization as Notification Method in the App options.

My Friends dont have F-Droid installed and use the Google Play Store Version and there they only have "Google Services" as Notification method.

So I assume that the F-Droid and Play Store Versions are build differently.

But I am SURE that push notifications worked before with the Google Play Store version out of the box
Was there a change in the Android Google Play Store version ?
