Element.io keeps using crazy amount of resources

Steps to reproduce

I have element.io in a pinned tab. Recently I keep finding that the tab is using 50-100% CPU constantly, and I've also seen the memory usage hit as high as 3GB. Often I've not even opened the tab at all that day.

Details were viewed from about:performance in Firefox ESR.

Firefox ESR support is best-effort only as per https://github.com/element-hq/element-web#supported-environments - which ultimately means if it doesn't impact the Supported tier of browsers it is unlikely to be fixed unless by the community

Well, it's only 5 release behind currently, so I'd be surprised if it's something that doesn't happen on supported versions of Firefox..

Having just checked within a few minutes of restoring Firefox, I'm seeing CPU averaging around 66% and the memory increasing every second. It starts at something like 270MB, then over ~10 seconds it increases to around 320MB, then resets back close to 270MB. But, every iteration increases the start/end memory by a few MBs. After watching it for about 2 minutes, it's falling back to 290MB and increasing to around 340MB..
