what version of go does this work with?

I'm wondering what version of go this works with. I tried with go 1.8 since that was the first one I tried not to provide the error on current go, but it didn't have math/bits. So then I tried go 1.9, and it had the current error. It looks like no version of go works with this, but is that true? Would love an answer! :-).
