EOS CI fails to build PAYG image due to "symlinkat: Operation not permitted":

Wondering the error comes from sd-boot related things? Endless OS PAYG image uses sd-boot, instead of GRUB.

EPERM The filesystem containing linkpath does not support the creation of symbolic links.

This is almost certainly because ostree is trying to use a real symlink on VFAT. It should be using the fake symlink hacks there. Either the hacks in ostree weren't brought forward or they no longer work correctly on current ostree.

We are using upstream OSTree so far. I take it we need to use a patched Endless version?

Yes. Someday maybe ostreedev/ostree#3359 can be used, but even then it will involve a complicated migration to get away from the FAT hacks we currently have for existing systems.

This is working since we adopted the patched OSTree.
