Run rebar3 shell without compiling?

I just want to bring up a shell with the code path(s) setup correct.

you may want to instead use rebar3 path to give all directory paths and call it with something like erl -pa $(rebar3 path) . The rebar3 shell command always compiles its dependencies, but the path one picks up whatever is currently set up in the project and returns the list without compiling anything.

Btw: Sometimes I want to compile with some Erlang macros set, but rebar3 compile doesn't seem to take a --config <path> switch so that I can have an alternative compile setup. Perhaps there is some way to solve this?

You can use profiles for that, http://rebar3.org/docs/configuration/profiles/
