Check if a word is italicized

I have certain words that I never want italicized. I had this working in an older version of Vale using an existence rule with a scope of emphasis. I just upgraded Vale and encountered a message saying emphasis is no longer valid and to use raw instead. But simply replacing emphasis with raw made the rule stop working. I can't figure out how to get Vale to check if a word is italicized or not. I'm using reST and Sphinx.

The raw scope allows you to write rules that are directly applied to the unprocessed file contents, meaning you can target markup syntax itself. So, for example, you'd do something like this:

And thank you from me as well! This solution works equally well for terms involving superscript. For example, in my industry, we use a protocol called I2C, where the 2 must always be superscript. Your solution allowed me to create this rule:
