Well? Who was surprised by that headline? It's also surprising and astonishing!
I had just installed the new firmware and went outside onto the lounger with the radio and the loop antenna to reset my settings. At the same time, my wife had decided to brush our dogs, starting with our little one ~6m far from me.
So I was playing with the receiver and was surprised by the occasional, quiet crackling on most bands. I thought to myself, it could be a thunderstorm far away or a device at the neighbors'. So I ignored it for a while.
Then my wife came with our big German Shepherd. I always have to hold her by the collar when we brush her, because she doesn't really like it.
The radio was lying next to it...
It took a moment until I subconsciously synchronized the brush strokes with the interference and realized that the interference was definitely caused by the brushing!
I then looked to see how intensely on which bands it was. It's most clearly audible on the 80m band, second most clearly on the 20m band. It's not audible on the 160m band, nor on the 10m band, and certainly not on VHF.
- IS THIS CRAZY?! -
There must be many thousands of tiny static discharges when you run the special dog metal comb through the fur...
