Support the Polygon Infura endpoint?

It seems like supporting Polygon would just be a matter of adding a switch case to InfuraProvider as follows:

Is there any reason not to support this now that it's in beta on Infura?

Can you send a link to the info on infura.io? I looked the other day and couldn’t find any info on the URL and to make sure the API keys were portable.

Also, what should it be called? "matic" or "polygon"? I don’t quite understand the history here, so any official link to that too would help me make these changes quicker. :)

I think that MATIC is still the token, but the network is now called Polygon, so in a sense both are correct, depending on the perspective. The example I gave above comes from a project where I'm integrating quickswap and that's how they label it, so I kept 'matic' to be consistent with that, but on completely blank slate I think I'd go with 'polygon', particularly since we are definitely talking about the network in this instance.

By the way, I've just forked ethers.js and tested this out. seems to work as expected.

As far I understood their rebrand, Polygon is be a group of scaling solutions (which sounds like more chains in the future). I just looked up on their site and they call "Matic Plasma" as one of their solutions (this is the one Infura is referring to) while others listed as "coming soon". On Infura, there is no mention of the word "matic".

TLDR; I think it is better to tag their current chain id as "matic" as it's likely more chains coming up under the same brand name Polygon with different chain ids.

matic is anchored on the ethereum Mainnet by snapshotting periodically.
mumbai testnet is anchored on goerli ethereum testnet.
Both are supported on Infura now.
Ideally InfuraProvider also supports both.
It just works out of the box, easiest L2 solution for developers...
