Better support on FoxESS A Series EV charger #26218

Hello all,

I got a new PV system from FoxESS. Inverter, battery and wallbox.
To get a better control I decided to use EVCC. First, a big shot out to the team, great tool.

The integration for inverter and battery working fine, but the integration on the charger is not working as expected.
My EV charger A011KP1-E-B-WO is supporting phase shift, but the integration offer me only to choose between 1p or 3p, no option on automatic.
And it looks like that there is no difference in what I choose, as the charing starts in 3p always.
Also when I select 1p into the car settings (BMW Car Data, 330e).
Alway charing is with 3p

Within the logs I can see, that EVCC is expecting to work with 1p.

My question is, what could be the reason? Is this a problem with OCPP or FoxESS?
Would it be helpful to switch from OCPP to Modbus? If yes, how can I support?

My question is, what could be the reason?

The charger is not announcing 1p3p support through ocpp.

Is this a problem with OCPP or FoxESS?

With FoxESS, they decided not to support it through ocpp.

Would it be helpful to switch from OCPP to Modbus? If yes, how can I support?

By providing a modbus register specification.

You could try using phases1p3p and send powers like here

evcc/charger/bender.go

, depending on wether evcc wants to switch to one or three phases.

I had already an idea which should work the same way.

I "misuse" maxcurrent to send power to the charger and using the phase automation of the charger.
with the calc "maxcurrent" * 2P * 230V

I choose 2 P because when I set the min current to 3A to lowest charging power will be 1.340W which will trigger the charger to go with 1p and 6A.
When EVCC decide to charge with full power, this will around 7.5KW with 10A on 3p.
As my car is a PHEV, max charging power (11kW) is not so important to me. More of interest is, to charge with less of grid power.

But with all the testing today I get blocked on the BMW API. I'll test this end of this week, as I'm on a trip for the next days.

Hi mate I see you have the fox ess a ev charger and using evcc with ocpp can you please tell me what kind of lag you get because as I understand it to use ocpp you it needs to go through fox cloud and I heard their delay can be up to 5 minutes?

I haven't bought the charger yet because I was considering using modbus with it but I read that modbus might not able to send commands to the charger only read data? Because my primary goal is to be able to home assistant to change the current output so I don't use grid power

Ie inverter has a spare 12 amps so tell the charger to only charge at 12 amps etc

Hi, ocpp and modbus are protocols with local communication. No FoxCloud is needed.
I decide to use the Fox charger with modbus instead of ocpp, as with ocpp the phase switching wasn't working well and with ocpp I had to decide which app is able to control my charger (EVCC or HA).
Because of that I choose modbus as EVCC provides me a modbus proxy which I use to control some additional parameter true HA, like "working mode".
