Is it possible to convert a CATProduct into separate STEP files for all CATParts?

I have a CATProduct that contains multiple CATParts and sub-assemblies.
I want to export each individual CATPart as a separate STEP (.stp) file, preserving the part names.

If possible, please provide a reliable automation solution (CATScript / VBA / PyCATIA / C#) that works with a licensed CATIA installation.

Yes, this is certainly possible.

There are also examples on how to loop through a CATProduct: https://pycatia.readthedocs.io/en/latest/examples.html#product-examples.

Please don't expect people to write your code for you (somebody here may still do that). Learn from the above examples. If you have a specific issue with your code, then ask away.

I had to rewrite the script as it didn't work for me. This is the new version: https://github.com/evereux/pycatia/blob/master/user_scripts/save_child_parts_to_stp.py

• The import for pycatia was in the wrong place for it to be effective for developers.
• It was failing on the selection search for numerous file types.
• It was overly complex for a simple task. Too much obfuscation for this simple task I thought and figured it could be made much simpler.

I think you're saying you have other CATParts open that aren't children of the opened CATProduct within your CATIA session? Yeah, that's a good point! I'll have a think on that.

I'm also not happy with the way really large assemblies could potentially crash CATIA V5 if the whole thing is put into design mode. But I figured I'm not creating enterprise grade scripts here just providing simple solutions.

It was this line in your code that was failing:

I'll re-open this and at least deal with the phantom exports.
