[Fedora Silverblue] "rpm2cpio: Unrecognized archive format" because the ui package is zstd compressed

Describe the bug:

F43 rpm2cpio says unrecognized archive format, when it encounters that opensnitch-ui is zstd compressed within the UI's rpm package.

• OpenSnitch version: 1.8.0
• OS: Fedora Silverblue
• OS version: 43
• Window Manager: GNOME
• Kernel version: 6.17.9

To Reproduce:

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. rpm-ostree install opensnitch-ui-1.8.0-1.noarch.rpm

Post error logs:

error: Reading rpm2cpio: Unrecognized archive format

Expected behavior (optional):

Compress with gzip, as rpm2cpio isn't aware of zstd.

They did, but it looks like the rpm-ostree machinery uses rpm2cpio still.

Thanks for report. Seeing same F43 Silverblue. As a note running 1.8.0-1 daemon with 1.7.2-1 UI seems work fine for me in meantime. Does give a warning upon startup of the difference in versions

I think the issue stems from the way how the package is being built in the debian userland in the pipeline, they are definitely different formats:

file opensnitch-*1.8*
opensnitch-1.8.0-1.x86_64.rpm:    RPM v3.0 bin i386/x86_64 opensnitch-1.8.0-1
opensnitch-ui-1.8.0-1.noarch.rpm: RPM v4.0 bin opensnitch-ui-1.8.0-1

if I re-package the rpm with rpmrebuild -p opensnitch-ui-1.8.0-1.noarch.rpm it becomes installable.

Try rpm -qp --qf "%{PAYLOADCOMPRESSOR} %{PAYLOADFLAGS}\n".
That'll show the ui is zstd.

Actually I haven't changed how the packages are built, just a regular rpmbuild ...spec.

On Fedora 43 and OpenSuse 15.6 works fine, but I can rebuild the packages with gzip as compression format.

@v1gnesh do you want to test it before updating the packages? just to see if it works. Tested on Fedora 43 and works fine, as expected.

If the rpm cmd above shows gzip instead of zstd, that's enough to believe it'll work with rpm2cpio / rpm-ostree, @gustavo-iniguez-goya :)

hey I've been having the same issue (specifically secureblue not silverblue) and the new rpm didn't fix the issue unfortunately
