Intersphinx code links with myst-parser 2.0

I have multiple documents that use myst and {class}, {func}... roles to generate intersphinx links to python objects. I also have {ref} and {doc} ones. Reading the updated docs, concretely https://myst-parser.readthedocs.io/en/latest/syntax/cross-referencing.html#reference-roles (emphasis mine):

These can also within MyST documents, although it is recommended to use the Markdown syntax where possible, which is more portable and native to MyST.

so I have tried to update them to markdown syntax. I like the new syntax and it is quite convenient, but I don't seem to find how to use markdown/myst syntax instead of roles with custom text and have them rendered "as code". Here is one example:

I have also tried:

<inv:#~xarray.Dataset.map>
<inv:~#xarray.Dataset.map>
[map](inv:xarray:py:meth#xarray.Dataset.map)

but none worked. On the other hand

{meth}`~xarray.Dataset.map`

looks like:

I don't care about the parenthesis and can turn them off in conf.py but want the code-like formatting
