Website design process feedback

Hey folks, we've been working with Orama to help us work on a new design for the website. We've walked through a branding workshop with them as well, but we want to get some feedback on the various designs that we are getting from them.

Here is a figma with some designs for the homepage and the sidebar, any feedback?

We can use this issue to keep track of getting design feedback as things come through.

Browser Sidebar Collision:

Will this sidebar design conflict with browser-native sidebars? For example, many modern browsers provide left or right sidebars by default (such as bookmarks, extensions, or reading lists). Could this cause confusion or visual overlap for users?

Footer Visibility:

Currently, the design doesn’t include a footer. How will the layout feel or behave once the footer is added? Should the sidebar extend to the footer, or should the footer span the full width independently?

Mobile Responsiveness:

How will this design adapt on mobile? Specifically:

• Will the sidebar collapse into a drawer or top menu?
• Will it push content down or disappear behind a hamburger icon?
• Is it still effective for highlighting key content on smaller screens?

Overall, I like both menus, but I prefer the second option, following a style similar to what Angular uses. The goal is to start dividing the content into smaller, more specialized pages. For example, in the API documentation, each function should have its own page, easily accessible through the menu. The same goes for the guides, we should start separating the content, and having a menu that can adapt to that would be great. With the current one, we can’t really do that

We need to add the footer as required by the foundation (including the social media accounts we have), and a section for announcements is also needed

I would also like the guides to have their own table of contents (TOC) on the right side of the content. That helps users find content more easily.

It would also be great if blog posts had a banner at the top of the content showing the title, similar to how Node.js, Astro, and many other sites do it. This would require some changes to the current infrastructure, but I'm willing to make that change

This also applies more to when the homepage is developed: it's important to respect the user's 'prefers-reduced-motion' setting.
