Feature: Add option to display file extensions only when renaming files

What feature or improvement do you think would benefit Files?

Currently, file extensions either display with or without their file extension, as specified by setting; just like in Windows Explorer.
However, it would be better if (by a setting of course) the user could change the way that extensions are displayed to a more dynamic way: the extension does not display in the explorer itself, but only appears when editing the name of the file. This would allow for a cleaner view while maintaining the functionality to allow for an enhanced experience.

Requirements

• Add ability to display file extension only while editing file name
• Add corresponding setting (disabled by default of course)

A recent poll shows that most users prefer to keep file extensions visible, with little interest in the proposed new option. However, among those who have already hidden file extensions, there seems to be some interest in adopting this behavior as the default when extensions are disabled.
