Feature: Support creating a folder shortcut by dragging name from address bar

Adress Bar Drag n Drop

Windows Old Explorer in Windows 10 had the functionality of dragging and dropping links from the adress bar, and for a long time I wanted to switch back to it from the new ui explorer in windows 11, and sacrifice the tabs feature, because dropping links was a thing I used a lot, and still use. So happy I was when in an update they added it back. But thats a thing that lack in Files too. I think it would not be that difficult to implement. I use it all the time.

We were previously tracking this in #13086. We currently don't have enough interest in bringing this option to Files, but please comment in #13086 to receive updates regarding this request.

I didn't know someone else had already asked for that feature. I thought the answers they received a little weak, as they could already right click drag to create a shortcut, but the drag from the address bar is easier if you want to create a shortcut of the folder you're currently in, without having to go to the parent folder and right drag the folder. When you have to do it multiple times, those seconds and extra steps become a lot of time and headache. But also, there is no functionality in dragging the text from the address bar. It's a popular feature within a certain audience, but it's quite niche among our current userbase. Things can always change, especially as our userbase grows.
