Feature: Add a show/hide toggle for dot files in the layout picker

What feature or improvement do you think would benefit Files?

It is becoming more common to use files/directories that start with . in windows leading to a lot of clutter that would not be visible in linux etc. You give an option to hide these which is brilliant, however if you need to unhide you have to fight through the menu system to find that. For hidden files there is a toggle easily availalble but this only hides and shows windows hidden files.

It would be great if the option to hide files starting with a . essentially made them into hidden files that then appeared and disappeared with the same toggle. This way you could choose if they are hidden or not and if you chose to hide them they will toggle visibility the same way as normally hidden files.

Requirements

• It will make it much easier to declutter the experience and yest still have easy access should it be required.

We don't have plans to add this to the layout picker, but you can assign a custom keyboard shortcut for toggling this setting via the actions page. We're also considering a feature to pin custom actions to the toolbar #16188.
