Description
What feature or improvement do you think would benefit Files?
I believe adding a "Quick Preview" feature would greatly benefit Files. This feature would allow users to quickly view the contents of a selected file (such as images, documents, text files, etc.) directly within the Files application, without needing to open the file in its default associated program. This would significantly speed up the process of browsing and identifying files.
Requirements
- Implement a mechanism to trigger the preview, such as selecting a file and pressing the spacebar.
- Develop a preview pane or pop-up window that displays the file's content within the Files interface.
- Provide support for previewing common file types, including images (e.g., JPG, PNG, GIF), text-based files (e.g., TXT, MD, code files with basic syntax highlighting), and potentially PDFs and basic document formats.
- Ensure the preview loads quickly and efficiently without consuming excessive system resources.
- Allow users to easily dismiss the preview (e.g., pressing the trigger key again or the Esc key).
- Integrate the feature smoothly with the existing Files user interface and themes.
- Consider basic interactions within the preview where applicable (e.g., scrolling for text/documents, perhaps zoom for images).
