Feature: SPEED - to be as fast as File Pilot PLEASE

What feature or improvement do you think would benefit Files?

I like Files, but it is very sluggish compared to File Pilot. Is there a way to have comparable speed at opening folders with thousands of files, for example?

I don't know if it is possible, or of there are things File Pilot do not do, but the speed of File Pilot is first rate. Please see if you can achieve that! Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback, Files will have better performance with every update. The file browsing slowdowns mostly are coming from Microsoft WinUI/WinAppSDK, others require big code base improvements that will take time. You can see progress here #4180. File Pilot is made completely differently to Files so it's not a simple thing to match.

You can try some things that might improve it currently

• Turn off Files settings > Files & folders > Calculate folder sizes to reduce CPU usage
• Try closing Files from the system tray to open Files fresh.
