Particle-in-cell models

There is some interest in developing particle-in-cell methods in Firedrake for various applications. I am aware that progress was made in this direction with @ReubenHill 's work and I suspect that there are people in the Firedrake group that know what needs to be done to get it working. I thought it might be useful to have somewhere to record what needs to be done so that those of us who are interested can contribute or follow for updates as appropriate.

I think that this will get looked at by a UKAEA-sponsored PhD student starting this October.
