VS2026 with HeatWave v1.0.6

I'm getting the following MessageBox error when attempting to open .wixproj files in VS 2026.

The project file cannot be opened by the project system, because it is missing some critical imports or the referenced SDK cannot be found.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled HeatWave in VS2026 (Microsoft Visual Studio Professional, Channel: Insiders. Version: Insiders [11206.111]) but it makes no difference.

Any idea what SDK it is referring to or how to fix this problem?

A couple of questions:

1. Is your .wixproj still a v3 project or a modern .wixproj (using WixToolset.Sdk)?
2. Do you have the "WiX v3 - Visual Studio 2022 Extension" installed?

Yes, these are legacy v3 projects. I do have "WiX v3 - Visual Studio 2022 Extension" installed on VS 2026 but it's giving the error shown above.

I've made my problem go away (not really fixed) by re-installing VS 2022 and the uninstalling and reinstalling the "WiX v3 - Visual Studio 2022 Extension" and "HeatWave for 2022". This allows me to upgrade the projects to v6 based projects. I can then successfully open, and build, these in VS 2026

Yes. There is a known issue in Visual Studio 2026 causing problems when both the old WiX Visual Studio Extension and HeatWave are installed. Removing the old WiX Visual Studio Extension resolves the problem.
