Is there a timeframe for Wine-Support?

Wine is used for a lot of applications that are not available natively on Linux.
Being able to hook processes started by wine and their spawned child-processes would make analysis a lot easier.
Is this something that will be worked on anytime soon?

thanks a lot for the suggestion — supporting Wine would indeed make friTap more useful for analyzing Windows-only apps on Linux. It’s on our radar, but we’re currently focused on a few higher-priority items, so we can’t promise a timeline just yet. That said, your input helps us scope it properly.

A quick note on why this is non-trivial under Wine:

• Depending on the target app, TLS may go through Wine’s shims (often backed by GnuTLS or OpenSSL on Linux) or through a TLS library bundled with the app itself (e.g., BoringSSL/mbedTLS as DLLs).
• Process trees under Wine can be a bit special; friTap may need improved child-process following for Wine-spawned processes.

If you already have a specific target in mind, sharing a minimal repro would help us evaluate and maybe prototype support:

• App name & version, architecture (32-bit/64-bit)
• Wine version and distro
• Exact launch command and whether it spawns child processes
• If known: which TLS backend it uses (Wine’s GnuTLS/OpenSSL vs. app-bundled)
• Minimal steps to trigger an HTTPS request

With that, we can test two paths:

1. Hook the Linux TLS libs used by Wine (GnuTLS/OpenSSL) and ensure friTap follows/attaches correctly to Wine child processes.
2. If the app ships its own TLS DLLs, add/extend hook profiles for those.

We’ll keep this open as an enhancement. Contributions are very welcome—happy to review PRs or test cases!

You can always re-use #17 Battle.net which is using ChromiumEmbeddedFramework and BoringTLS on the frontend and LSASS/Schannel on the background process.

Similiar applications with Chromium & Electron, BoringTLS &OpenSSL that like child processes are:

I am sure running a normal browser like Firefox or Chromium within wine will be enough as well, even if they are available natively on Linux.

Well i use Ubuntu 25.04 with AMD64bit

Either launcher can be run directly with wine appname.exe and then opens up the initial connection to show the login window and do the auth process once installed.
Process arguments are sent if required from the launcher to the game/child process.
