No such module 'PackageDescription'

Hello!

I'm trying to use that android toolchain with Swift Package Manager and it fails by saying no such module 'PackageDescription'. Does it mean that there are no SPM support in this toolchain or I'm doing something wrong?

SPM is here but without PackageDescription module for some reason

It is easy to reproduce

try to initialize new empty swift package like this

cd ~/Dekstop
mkdir aaa
cd aaa
/Users/Shared/UIKit-cross-platform/swift-android-toolchain/Android.sdk-armeabi-v7a/usr/bin/swift package init

it will successfully create a new swift package with Package.swift where we have import PackageDescription
and then when we try to run swift package update

/Users/Shared/UIKit-cross-platform/swift-android-toolchain/Android.sdk-armeabi-v7a/usr/bin/swift package update

we are getting

/Users/mik/Desktop/aaaaa: error: manifest parse error(s):
/Users/mik/Desktop/aaaaa/Package.swift:4:8: error: no such module 'PackageDescription'
import PackageDescription
       ^

is it possible to fix? 🙏

hey @MihaelIsaev , sorry for the late reply. I missed all the notifications about your activity in this issue.

You kinda already found the reason in your first message. This toolchain is not meant to be used with swift package manager. We were previously using SPM to compile the swift sources to binaries but we ended up with the weirdest hacks to work against built in opinionated behaviour of SPM which did not make much sense from android perspective. That's why we migrated to cmake in this commit 8fbfe42 .

We abstracted all the cmake configuration and build steps behind a helper which can be executed from gradle directly. So building the android app does automatically build and embed the libs into the apk. You can see a working example here.
