Get the number of avail updates from CLI

Hi

I'm trying to get the number of available updates from CLI, I've read few different ideas using --headless but didn't quite work yet.

The reason I'm trying this is to add this information into the tmux statusbar instead of the vim statusbar, just something I'm playing with.

I found similar discussions like updating the plugins using CLI but it's not quite what I'm looking for.. all I need is the number of avail updates.

Any suggestion pls?

nvim -V1 --headless "+Lazy! check | sleep | lua print(#require('lazy.manage.checker').updated)" +qa this worked for me. I put the sleep in between, so that enough time passes for the checker to be populated, otherwise sometimes I got a result of false and sometimes the actual number of updates.

You could also use nvim -V1 --headless "+Lazy! check | sleep | lua print(require('lazy.status').updates())" +qa, which will also output the icon of Package that is being used alongside with the number. Otherwise, if you just want the number, you can go with the command in my previous post.

The icon I was adding in another way but this is very interesting .. very nice
