How to manually deploy Pangolin with Podman and Quadlets config file?

Hi,

I try to deploy pangolin rootless on a Hetzner VPS that run Fedora CoreOS.

So far, I have created a new user zone, permitted unprivileged user to open restricted ports, and have redacted theses quadlets files :

• app.container
• gerbil.container
• traefik.container
• pangolin.pod

Everything start successfully, except that gerbil and traefik seems to not be able to connect to the app, the logs of traefik tell me 2025-10-03T13:50:51Z ERR Provider error, retrying in 732.775521ms error="cannot fetch configuration data: do fetch request: Get \"http://app:3001/api/v1/traefik-config\": dial tcp 127.0.0.1:3001: connect: connection refused" providerName=http and gerbil logs are here.

Create your pangolin network quadlet named pangolin.network with this content:

[Unit]
Description=Pangolin network

[Network]

[Install]
WantedBy=default.target

then add this to you pod:
Network=pangolin.network

Generate the systemd service:
systemctl --user daemon-reload
Start network:
systemctl --user start pangolin-network

Once you restart your pod check if the containers correctly registered with the network:
podman network inspect systemd-pangolin

Hi @Froggy232. I saw in the issue #1613 that you finally managed to run Pangolin from Podman Quadlets flawlessly. Right now I have the same problem as you, I get an error like this error="cannot fetch configuration data: do fetch request: Get \"http://app:3001/api/v1/traefik-config\": dial tcp 127.0.0.1:3001:. I am using the same Quadlet unit files as the last ones recommended by @remogatto. Can you tell me if you did something more to solve the problems? What was that DNS issue? Thank you so much in advance, this issue is getting me a little bit crazy.

Hey @anLizard, sorry for the late reply, I completely forgot about this. These are the config files originally provided by Froggy232.

Note that depending on your setup, running rootless containers might not be the best option for security. Personally, I am not running it rootless. You can read more about that in this reply by Dan Walsh (one of the core maintainers of Selinux)
