Many tab groups

I just started using Tab Modifier recently in Chrome. I am loving it for the most part, however, I am ending up with heaps of tab groups with the same few names that have been closed, but remain (in the bookmark bar and Tab groups in the menu. Am I doing something wrong? Can these just delete themselves after they are closed?

You need to disable this on the Chrome settings
