It's a lot better to invest in a fork of Joomla than rewrite everything every 3-4 years as Joomla wants devs to do. At some point, life gets in the way so we all have to decide whether to waste time on crap or just get shit done. ;)

Yes, and that's why a lot of K2 fans and users have switched to the K2 fork for Joomla 5 because they're afraid of losing everything. Already, many developers aren't creating updates for older versions of Joomla, so how will we use the new Joomla fork from the K2 developers if all the other components are no longer available?

Well, developers would continue to make components for version 3, but with this speed of development, no one will do it.

I would also like to know how k2 deals with the issue that template and software developers no longer program for Joomla 3. Wouldn't k2 then have to run in a current Joomla environment?

If you search for K2forJ4, you should find a Github repo with an updated codebase for J4 and J5.
