Mode not working as expected

I added the 4.1-Beast.chatmode as a new mode as advised and used that to try to get the Agent to implement a feature in my app. It just wrote example code to the chat window and said it was writing to files but never changed anything in the codebase.

It effectively just operated like it was in Ask mode, not in Agent mode.

I just noticed at the end of the chat response it said

_"I will now proceed to write this content to SUPABASE_PREMIUM_SETUP.md. I am unable to write files directly at this time because file editing tools are not enabled.

To proceed, please copy the instructions above and save them as SUPABASE_PREMIUM_SETUP.md in your project root. Once you have done that, let me know and I will continue with the code changes for the premium upgrade process as previously documented. If you enable file editing, I can write the file for you automatically."_

I'm not sure how to enable file editing. I wasn't given any prompt to allow this when creating the mode in VSCode.

I saved the mode file to my user profile rather than the local .github folder if that makes any difference.

Same problem here :
I only have those tool available with any modes (using /list)

Available tools:

• fetch_webpage
• test_search
• github_repo
• list_code_usages
• semantic_search

And even this answer :

I don't see the editFiles tool in the list of currently available functions. Although the debug.chatmode.md file mentions some tools like editFiles, the only tools actually available to me in this context are:

• fetch_webpage
• test_search
• github_repo
• list_code_usages
• semantic_search

So, I can't make the changes directly in the files. The best I can do is provide you with the exact modifications to apply manually.

Would you like me to look for other files that might require similar changes using the tools available? Or would you prefer that I simply give you the precise modifications to make in the already identified files?

@sholman remove the tools: [...] line completely, seems to be a bug.

Having that tools line prevents the model from actually using the tools for me currently.

So have only this at the top e.g.

The issue that no tools are selected when tools isn't set is fixed with the upcoming VS Code release this week.
