Describe the bug

This is what I see by default on Mac:

I'm not sure if it matters but I "upgraded" from microsoft/copilot-cli to this. The text was fine previously.

1. Type copilot
2. Type hi

If I switch to dark theme in Mac, the response is fine but the system text becomes dark-on-dark:

Thanks for the report, that does look quite bad! Can you share what terminal and OS you are using?

I started a small eclipse-plugin to integrate the copilot-cli int Eclipse IDE and see the same issue here:

so it seems that either the terminal does not understand what copilot is setting or copilot can not adapt to the terminal color codes.

I noticed it is even worse, in some cases you get white text on white background:

this is On Debian 13 with kernel Debian 6.12.57-1 (2025-11-05) x86_64 GNU/Linux

Could you try running /theme set light to confirm if the light theme renders properly?

I'm able to repro this issue when the terminal attempts to react to my OS theme change. But setting it manually seems to work which makes me think the colors we've picked are correct, we're just not reacting properly yet.

Yes that seems to work! So it looks like the auto mode is not always working right.
