Enable Token Authentication to a enterprise instance on ghe.com

Proposed solution

Currently i have 2 copilot licenses one private and one on my ghe.com work organization. I'am unable to use the Token auth from the ghe.com account, while i can use the token from the github.com account.

There should be an option to set the ghe.com organization used for authentication (i guess that is the issue? Or am i missing something?

Are you trying to use fine-grained PATs or the OAuth login through /login slash command?

This should allow you to provide your GitHub Enterprise host and complete the OAuth device flow, which you can switch between using /user switch slash command:

Other than that, copilot can fallback to gh authenticated sessions that you manage with gh auth commandset OR use fine-grained PAT using GITHUB_TOKEN or GH_TOKEN env vars.

I try to use the non-interactive mode and therefore want to use env vars

But i got it working now. the missing piece of the puzzle is the GH_HOST var

With this combo it works:

• Set GH_HOST to .ghe.com
• Set COPILOT_GITHUB_TOKEN to your pat

Going beyond that, I wonder if there should be an easier way to specify the user from the command line that can leverage the previous authentication token securely stored:

copilot --user andyfeller --host github.ghe.com

I find flags are easier to discover for users than tripping over copilot help environment 🤔

Yes that would be great!
Additionaly the GH_HOST env var should be added to the help text.

Richer docs about authentication would help too.
