Open changes with previous revision - but with working tree

Hello there.
I really like the "Open changes with previous revision" button:

But it would be nice, if i could get the working tree on the right instead of HEAD on the first click. That way i can quickly see the most recent changes and make some adjustments at the same time, if needed.
Didn't it use to be like this at some point btw?

That is how it is supposed to work, and that is the behavior I see. Though it will only open the comparison with the working tree if you actually have working tree changes. If the working tree and HEAD are the same, then it automatically goes to the next comparison.

Are you seeing something different?

Hmm... Yes so there are three situations, on the "first click":

1. No changes to the file: Left: Prev.Rev., Right: HEAD
2. Changes to the file, but unsaved: Left: Prev.Rev. , Right: HEAD
3. Changes to the file, saved: Left: HEAD, Right: Working tree

I think i would prefer, if it was like this:

1. No changes to the file: Left: Prev.Rev., Right: Working tree
2. Changes to the file, but unsaved: Left: Prev.Rev., Right: Working tree
3. Changes to the file, saved: Left: HEAD, Right: Working tree

Like that it's always possible to edit on the right side, and i don't see that you loose much functionality?

@wiegell In tomorrow's (v2024.04.17xx) pre-release edition of GitLens, I've made changes equivalent to the above, with one change:

2. Changes to the file, but unsaved: Left: Prev.Rev., Right: Working tree

is now: Changes to the file, but unsaved: Left: HEAD, Right: Working tree (as there is now a diff between HEAD and the working file)

Can you try out these changes and see what you think? Thanks!

You can switch to the pre-release edition of GitLens, by clicking on the "Switch to Pre-Release version of this extension" from the Extensions view.
